"Fasting Diets Linked to Lower Caloric Intake"

The study conducted by researchers at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign found that participants who followed an intermittent fasting diet consumed an average of 348 fewer calories per day.

The study involved 58 adults who were randomly assigned to either an intermittent fasting diet or a traditional diet. Those in the intermittent fasting group followed a protocol of fasting for 16 hours and eating during an 8-hour window while those in the traditional diet group followed a 12-hour fasting period and ate throughout the day.

At the end of the 12-week study the researchers found that participants in the intermittent fasting group had a significantly lower caloric intake than those in the traditional diet group. They also found that the fasting group had improved insulin sensitivity and reduced oxidative stress.

The researchers suggest that the reduced caloric intake may be due to a combination of factors including a decrease in hunger and overall food consumption. The study's lead author Professor Krista Varady noted that "intermittent fasting may lead to a reduction in overall caloric intake by helping people to naturally and effortlessly eat less without the need for strict calorie counting or meal planning."
